Nemo Me Impune Lacessit
The Austin Police Department's Pipe & Drum Corps' primary
mission is to honor those Austin police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. American police have
a long tradition of playing the bagpipes for their fallen brethren. The Pipe & Drum Corps proudly carries on
this tradition for both the police department and the greater Austin community by playing at those officers funerals who have
given their lives in the line of duty.
The pipe band has grown to include 12 musicians, all of whom
are active-duty Austin police officers. As a secondary mission, the PDC performs at various community and civic events.
A number of PDC members also play for the renowned Austin pipe band, 'Silver Thistles' as well as the newly formed
'Emergency Service Pipes & Drums' of central Texas.
The Pipe & Drum Corps was founded in 1998
and is part of the larger APD Honor Guard which is comprised of the pipe band, color guard and rifle team.
